Abdominal Pain in Children and Adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder: a Systematic Review

Abstract The aim of this study was to review the existing literature on abdominal pain in children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder. Systematic search four databases (PsycINFO, ERIC, PubMed, MEDLINE) identified 13 studies that met inclusion criteria. Articles were analyzed for common themes, including prevalence gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms, associations between pain/GI symptoms behavioral emotional concerns, other comorbid disorders treatment options based gut bacteria, diet, probiotics. Reasons varying rates, persistence over time, comorbidities, different are discussed. Clinical implications recommendations future research also
